It has been three weeks into my second job and I’ve had to iron out some problems I was experiencing with the amount of work I had to do. Plus, I had caught a cold from one of the family members in the house we stay in due to him bringing it from his job. So it’s safe to say that I haven’t been feeling up to par on some of the previous days.
But on the first day of class, I was somewhat excited. I could finally start my semester-long project that I’ve been wanting to begin, but didn’t know how to approach it. With some help from other classmates and my professor, I bought some film, loaded my camera and started photographing.
…Or, at least I would’ve if the camera I picked up from the pile of junk in the photo lab wasn’t so dusty and the advance lever wasn’t broken. Enter the gorgeous Pentax ME Super!
It’s usually a rare moment when I would find an old camera that someone abandoned a long time ago and I’d get to take it home with me to breathe some life into it. I’ve done it before with a Vivitar IC 1200 and a Kodak Brownie Flashmite 20 that I found at the photo lab and at a Goodwill store. Plus, the cameras I find don’t go into a landfill and I can at least attempt to save them one last time!
With this camera, it takes 35mm film and can still take pictures! But like I mentioned before, the camera had a layer of dust on it, inside and out, and the pieces of the advance lever were there, but the screw to hold them together was missing. I did talk to two other professors at the lab and one attempted to find a screw to fix it, but couldn’t (and felt really bad about it). The other professor promised to bring three other cameras he had to the lab on Tuesday for me to check out and use.
All in all, things weren’t so bad. This camera is still in my possession, but carefully stashed away next to my other cameras (not counting this one, I have four in total) until I can get the lever fixed. But me finding it, attempting to use it, and being able to start my project made my days a bit brighter!
