So last year, I browsed on Etsy, one of my favorite websites to go to for supplies, products and much more! I should know; I run an Etsy shop on that site.
Anyway, while browsing, I ran into a shop that sells natural hair care and skincare products made from high quality ingredients like shea butter, amla and more. The shop was called Rae Marie Essentials and it definitely piped my interest.
I waited a few months later to actually purchase something from the shop since I didn’t have much money on me at the time and I wasn’t going to put myself in further debt. I got a shampoo bar and along with it being purchased, the owner was kind enough to send me three samples of three products from her store!
I haven’t tried the shampoo bar yet, so I won’t be reviewing that. But I will review the samples she gave me along with my purchase.
First up, the Shea Coconut Silk Body Polish!
This body scrub has a gritty feel, but when applied to my skin, it dissolves into a foamy lather that easily cleans as well as exfoliates. I wouldn’t say that it removes dead skin very well because it isn’t that abrasive and rough. It’s just a gentle, foamy scrub that works on all areas of my body and doesn’t irritate my skin in the slightest. It also haves a nice perfume-like smell that’s easy on my nose!
Runner up, the Avocado Moisturizing Conditioner!
This conditioner was great for detangling my kinky afro and making sure it stayed that way. It’s noted that it can also be left in as a leave in, but I haven’t used it like that. But it’s also lightweight and the moisture wasn’t enough to keep my hair satisfied since my hair prefers something heavier and thicker. The packaging for the sample of the conditioner needs to be changed, however. I nearly spilled a bunch of the product trying to get it to come out of the small bottle and that wasn’t fun.
Last, but not least, the Amla-Avocado Leave In Conditioner!
This stuff was used as a leave in conditioner and as a hair moisturizer. As a leave in, it gave my afro plenty of slip for finger detangling and was very easy to spread all over. The scent reminds me of slightly ripened bananas and that was pleasant!
Again, the product was considered lightweight, so my hair didn’t stay moisturized for long, even on days that I used this as hair lotion. It was also ways easier to get out of the sample bottle.
All in all, these samples were great, but they seemed to be geared towards more curly haired ladies who need lightweight products to keep their curls from being weighed down. People with kinkier hair types can try these, but I recommend finding something that’s thicker, richer and slightly heavier for that extra moisture. I will be trying the shampoo bar soon, so that will be a separate product review on its own.
Until next time, everyone!
